In Memory of Carol Boehmer Lohmeyer

Carol Boehmer Lohmeyer, 84, Springfield, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2017 in her home. She was born on May 12, 1932 at St. John’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She was the only child of Julius and Virginia (Nicolai) Boehmer and was preceded in death by her special aunt Selma Boehmer. Carol was premature at birth and was not expected to live therefore she was not given a name at first and never a middle name. She is the last person of the Boehmer/Nicolai lineage.

Carol went to Adolphus Busch Elementary School from grades K-8 in which she skipped grade 3 due to high academic scores. She went to Southwest High School where she played flute in the marching band. She graduated in 1949 from high school.


Carol attended Drury College in Springfield, MO in 1949 where she majored in Biology. She lived in the dorm all four years. Carol was President of her sorority Zeta Tau Alpha. At the end of her freshman year, Carol met Bob Lohmeyer on a blind date. They went together for three years after being pinned. Carol graduated from Drury in May, 1953. Carol and Bob were married. To this union, three children were born, Don, Cathy and Jim.


Carol was a stay at home mom for her three children. Carol was a volunteer at St. John’s Hospital. She was also a well-loved 18 year volunteer in her daughter’s first grade classroom where she listened to kids read individually. Carol was a member of SMMA Craft Workshop art group for many years. She was a wonderful artist enjoying drawing, painting, and all crafts. Carol enjoyed traveling to Europe. She worked part time for the Greene County tax assessor and worked part time at Heer’s Department Store in coats and dresses for more than five years. Carol also enjoyed working at Gift Mansion for five years. She was a tax preparer at H&R Block for more than 10 years.


She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.


Carol is survived by her husband Bob, of the home; two sons, Don and wife, Julie Lohmeyer, and Jim and wife, Jill Lohmeyer; a daughter, Cathy and husband, Harold Zinter all of Springfield; ten grandchildren, Joel Zinter and wife, Stephenie, Jared Zinter, Matthew Zinter and wife, Laura, Ryan Zinter and wife, Lindsey, Jennifer Craigie and husband, Ian, Josie Morris and Katie, Katy Lohmeyer and fiance Geoff Kidwell, Whitney Bryant and husband, Blake, and Bethany McDonald and husband, Ben; and fourteen great-grandchildren, Adalyn and Kyle Zinter, Avery, Braxton and Emma Zinter, Lillian, Henry and Ruby Zinter, Maddy and Austin Morris, Gus and Louis Bryant, and Dotty and Hazel McDonald.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2017 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Fergus Monaghan celebrant, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Southwest Missouri Humane Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
